Your visit: Irvin House Vineyard

Now that we’ve hit our stride of spring, it’s time to get outside and enjoy. What better way to enjoy the beautiful scenery that spring provides than taking a drive out to the local winery and taste the local libations.

Irvin House Vineyards is the only local winery to Charleston, SC. At the Irvin House, they grow their grapes, harvest them, make the wine, and bottle the wines on site. They offer five different varietals of what they call “in the tradition of the southern muscadine: Tara Gold, Palmetto, Magnolia, Mullet Hall Red, and Live Oak Reserve.”

The vineyard is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm. You’ll never have to wait long for a tasting, they start every half hour and will cost you $3 to taste all five wines and take home a nice wrapped glass. If you visit on Saturday around 2pm, Irvin House gives a free group tour of the vineyard or if you’re looking for a more intimate experience, private tours are available upon request.

The vineyard is a 25-minute drive from Charleston, SC. Travel west on Maybank Highway (SR-700) for approximately 10 miles to Bears Bluff Road (SR-10316). Bear right onto Bears Bluff Road. Continue west for another 8.5 miles. Turn left into the vineyard entrance between two stucco columns….and enjoy!
